ABOUT
The Swe(E)t
The sounds and words have always seemed to guide and call out to me. Born from musically inclined parents rooted in jazz, R&B, & soul, music moved me from a very young age into a rhythmic chase to know more... sing more, dance more, FEEL for more. It is with insatiable pleasure that I share with you music that serves as eargasms for my spirit to push forward, my heart to remember love, and my loins to get lifted.
One day while growing up in Memphis, TN, I came across a Nikki Giovanni poetry collection, shifting my life dreams in ways I could have never imagined. Since I was 12-years-old, I've been writing for what started as fun - later resulting in affirmational self work and shameless indigence in self expression.
Being a music, poetry, and all around creative nerd/enthusiast has led me right here. The Swe(et) Music and Poetry Blog seeks to create excitement around black music, black literary genius, black artistic excellence, and original word work from myself. I'm super geeked that you are here.
I hope that this space inspires you, invokes thought, adds to you playlist, and feeds your soul the nectar it needs to really be mused...
I'd like to dedicate this work in self love to Erica Walls (rest in paradise, sweet cousin), my beautiful grandmama for teaching me that Rome was not built in a day, and my loving and supportive parents for truly showing me that love covers. I love you deeply and always.
Much love and many blessings! Thank you for visiting The Swe(e)t.
