Happy Sunday! It is vital and with pleasure that I introduce one of my favorite poets, here on The Swe(E)t! If you have not come across the incredible work of Ryan "darling Ryan" Ratliff on Instagram or elsewhere, you have missed a poetry reading experience in graceful, healing and soul reveling story telling by way of word play. I'm so excited to chime in on the manifestation of black poetic greatness coming to light!
Ryan (she/her) is a Black and queer emerging storyteller fluent in poetry, prose, and playwriting. Her work centers the familiarity of intimacy, grief, and healing in the human experience. She resides in Middle Tennessee, where she is working on her first poetry collection. Her writing is forthcoming in the following literary journals: Room Magazine and Sinister Wisdom Magazine.
It's safe to say Ryan's work goes well with a smooth latte on a sunny day. It meshes well meditation. You could even pair it with the after glow magic of a morning spent with your love. It reads like a warm hug with a sort of sensuality for kindness, self-empowerment, self-discovery and joy for the intricate parts of love and life.
The way that she makes you feel (like really feel) love words from just a page or post... The way that she describes the chaos and delight going on inside... her approach to arranging the words in a fashion that paints the clearest picture, almost setting up a colorful cinematic scene in your head... Ryan is an incredible writer, who I'm proud to share!
